So…perhaps you can shed light on something I have wondered about. Soda began being almost exclusively made with high fructose corn syrup in the 80s it seems. I didn’t realize it, it changed the taste of soda. New coke came and went but Classic still didn’t taste quite right. Over time I stopped drinking sodas for this reason, I think. Then some time in the early aughties i was in santa ana. I bought cola made in Mexico because I heard they used cane sugar instead of corn syrup. It was just a whim because I noticed some foreign lemonade was pretty tasty with cane sugar. It was a revelation. Coke’s taste from my youth was filling my mouth. I began to suspect the cola war may have been a sham.
